E-155MF mockup  In accordance with the 24 May, 1968 directive by the USSR Council of Ministers, there were three E-155M versions to be developed - the E-155MP fighter-interceptor as part of the S-155M airborne all-altitude interceptor, the E-155MF tactical missile-carrying bomber as well as the E-155MR reconnaissance aircraft.
    The front bomber was intended for break of air defence on supersonic speeds and depositions of impacts on the major objects of the opponent by bombs and guided missiles from high altitudes.
    The airplane has received designation E-155MF and was externally very similar to the future MiG-31, except for a broad nose where the cockpit with the pilot and the navigation officer was placed, sitting side by side. It was supposed, that standard arms four rockets Kh-58 underneath the wing and up to 12 bombs of calibre of 250 (500) kg in fuselage bomb bay become. Activities on E-155MF were stopped in connection with appearance of more attractive project Sukhoi DB (Su-24?).
